Drive with safe and healthy air-conditioning

22/07/2016 English

High temperature, high humidity and sultry environment are the features of summer in Hong Kong. These factors make people sweating heavily and easy to get tired during summer. Some drivers like to take their time and enjoy some moments in the car, like turning the air-conditioning temperature to its lowest, resting or even sleeping. Even though air conditioning has been a “gift” to us in a car during an extremely hot day, we will need to make use of it safely and healthily in order to protect both the car and ourselves!

Stop your car and rest with air-conditioning opened

This is a must-know dangerous behaviour for a driver! When the car engine is running, highly concentrated carbon monoxide will be produced if the gasoline combustion is not completed in the cylinder. In case these carbon monoxide have been infiltrated into the car in a sealed air space, it may lead to poisoning or even death! Opening the car window and resting with air conditioning opened is also dangerous even if you park your car in an indoor car park. Because it is also a closed space.

Open the air-conditioning right after getting in the car

While this enable you to enjoy the cool air inside, the cooling effect will not be good. And it will also increase the pressure when the engine is running. Once you get in your car, you should lower the car window and let the warm air escape. Turn on the air-conditioning until the temperature drops slightly to make a better effect.

Air-conditioning temperature is too low

This may affect the regulation of the body’s endocrine system. You may easily get disease like arthritis, frozen shoulder, cold. If the temperature is below 20 degrees, it will lead to more serious discomfort, such as lower limb pain, malaise, chills, headache, sore throat, sore waist and so on. So, it will be nice to keep temperature difference between inside and outside of the car in around 5 to 6 degrees.

Air-conditioning power

While driving on the road, what’s coming to you are dust. And these dust can be easily sucked into the operating air-conditioning system. Mold will be produced in this way and spread through the cooling system, affecting the health of the driver and passengers. Adjusting the air-conditioning power to its maximum from time to time can blow away the fouling in the air, which helps to improve the air quality in the car.
